An Open Invitation to LS Parents Night!

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

My lower school children and I go through a regular routine as we are exiting the pickup line.  I ask, "What did you do today?"  They always respond, "I don't know" or "I forget."  Nice.  It's not easy prying information out of your kids about what is happening at school, but I have found that the more specific questions that I ask — about certain teachers, subjects, etc.— the better intel I get back.  How do I learn enough to ask the right questions? First step is to attend Parents Night— which happens to be this Thursday, August 30.

Parents Night is a great opportunity to get to know all the teachers that will be working with our kids.  It also gives you a glimpse into the daily activities that shape their routine.  Good stuff. In case you need a little more encouragement to attend, a few Lower School dads have complied a short list of why you should make a point to be there:

1. They keep things moving and you get to sit in the "little" chairs
2. Dan Vorenberg plays guitar and only occasionally asks for audience participation
3. It's a good excuse to get a mid-week babysitter and go out afterwards for dinner
4. If you don't go, your child will question you and make you feel guilty because you did not leave a note or some other proof of your attendance.  Sigh.

We hope to see all the Lower School parents there on Thursday evening!  You start in the theater and then migrate to the classrooms.  Let us know with any questions!
