Hmmm....
That's certainly creative. What happened to this?
If you're not familiar with this anti-drug PSA from its original airing, then you probably know it from the multitude of parodies and merchandise that ultimately resulted from this spectacularly successful campaign.
But that was then— the 80s and 90s— and this is now— 2012. As parents, our information about drug and alcohol use is mostly based on our own personal experiences and the efforts of our own parents to educate us about these topics. That is to say, I doubt that enough of us are current.
A week from today on October 1st (in the Barton Room), the Parent Education committee is bringing drug enforcement agents from Franklin County to give us the bad and the ugly about drug and alcohol use in our local community. This program is geared towards parents of kids aged 12-19, but parents from all divisions are welcome. This is a grown-up event only, keep the kiddos at home.
Every day, these officers are in the trenches dealing with kids, alcohol and drugs; they will share what they're seeing on the streets and in our suburban schools. Visual aids will be present— that means drugs (no free samples...sorry), assorted paraphernalia
The program is long-ish, from 630-9pm, but it will hold your attention. Truly. It's a hands-on presentation, interactive and engaging— there will be some light nosh to keep the tummies from rumbling too loudly.
A few weeks later on October 23rd, a follow-up program will be held to continue the conversation and help us translate this valuable information into dialogue with our own kids. This discussion will be led by Paul Schkolnik, PhD, an expert in adolescent alcohol and drug abuse from 7-830pm, also in the Barton Room.
...Any questions? :)
Brought to you by the partnership for a drug-free CA!!
