So... you were running late and held up carpool so the kids could finish breakfast in the car, your kid got busted for a dress code infraction and you've got boy/girl drama and sass from your "tween"ager in spades. It's a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad CA day.
What to do? Word has it from parents, administrators and teachers alike that the best antidote for Viking angst can be found in the rooms of Pre-K. And as a Pre-K parent thrice over, I can attest to the magic.
I know that many folks don't feel preschool merits the tuition or the process that gaining entrance into CA requires; however, I would happily wager that no other program in the city is as well- thought out, organized and meaningful as the one that we have at Academy.
There is a method and a purpose behind every activity and interaction. They make every minute count in a 3.5 hour morning.
There is outstanding communication between teachers and parents— anecdotally, just last week, my child's Pre-K teacher just called to check-in and make sure things were going well— I was in mommy nirvana.
There is superb academic and social instruction. My daughter, at four-years-old, explained to me how she was learning about conflict resolution (OK, maybe she didn't phrase it quite like that) through the use of the "peace rose." Rock on, sistah.
You would not think that a gaggle of four- and five-year olds would be an easy group, but honestly, the Pre-K teachers make it seem like everything is all hearts and flowers, with only an occasional rest-stop to mar the harmony.
Why do I mention this? This upcoming Friday, October 19th, there will be an Open House particularly for Pre-K and Kindergarten from 930-1100. If you have friends or neighbors with kids this age, share the information and have them come by. Or, take a gander at one of the classroom blogs (which gives quite a glimpse at what our littlest Vikings are doing each day) or check out this nifty video which gives some great insight into the program.
Yes, they are all adorable with pigtails and bedhead—no denying that– but the magic comes from far more than cuteness....it comes from within. Pass it on!
